Aircraft Paint Prep Tech

Job Description:

The Aircraft Paint Prep Tech is involved in all steps of the aircraft strip and paint process from start to finish including, disassembly, stripping, masking, surface preparation, body work, paint scheme layout, paint application, touch up and re-assembly. The Paint Prep Tech will also assist in and learn a variety of painting techniques spray a variety of paints and coatings from base coat to final clear and topcoats. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the disassembly of aircraft for the strip and paint process.
  • Mask aircraft and parts and apply environmentally friendly paint stripper to remove paint and primer from aircraft for paint.
  • Prepare surfaces to be painted using abrasives, solvents, brushes and various power and air tools.
  • Assist in the mixing and spraying/application of various primers, paints, clear coats and other coatings.
  • Assist in the layout and mask for the application of simple to intricate paint schemes and designs, including aircraft registration numbers.
  • Assist in the application of various logos, placards and other vinyl elements on painted surfaces.
  • Cutting, buffing, and polishing of clear coats, paints, and other coatings as well as polishing brightwork.
  • Help to perform minor body work and fiberglass repairs on aircraft tips, fins, fairings, and aluminum surfaces.
  • Clean and maintain all paint shop tools and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Prep experience in aircraft, RV, automotive or industrial paint shop is preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
